Bootleg Booty

June, mythologically speaking, celebrates  birth, youth, love and beauty. And with luck there will be sunshine too - it’s all wrapped up in one splendid, month-long package!

Chefs celebrate June as the real beginning of the season of plenty, and so we have a host of delicious events to entice you with.
First of all, the MidSummer Weekend madness that is the Bootleg Banquet pop-up at the Dead Dolls House on Hoxton Square – a gorgeously quirky private members’ club with full bar and wine list – where we present our trademark Big Food, Flavours and Fun, over two nights on June 20 and 21. And for only £20pp, it’s guaranteed to be a gobsmackingly good night out.
The menu and all the details on how to book are here:
http://billetto.co.uk/bootleg for the Friday sitting (7.30pm)
http://billetto.co.uk/bootleg-95d5b5 for the first sitting on Saturday (6pm)
The venue has a roof terrace too, for pre and post dinner drinks.

MORE DATES
Our next Three-Course Thursday is July 31 –  Pimm’s and barbecue on the terrace. It doesn’t get more seasonal than that.
It’s a school night, but it’s SO nearly the weekend … come and join us for a evening of good food, good friends and good times. Umbrellas optional.

Pocket sommelier
We love that guests can choose and bring their own drinks to Bootleg Banquet without having to pay corkage. That means you may wish to spend a little more (or a little less) on the wine that you might from a restaurant wine list. But the choice is unlimited and how do you know good value (or great flavour) when you see it on a supermarket shelf?
We think you’d like WOTWINE, a free app that offers  professional wine advice at your fingertips, when you scan a wine bottle barcode. Each wine is given a tasting description and a  WOTWINE price to reflect its actual value, rather than the price on the shelf. We think it’s a great idea, and a perfect match with supperclubs.

Big country, big flavours, big night

Eat and drink South Africa - April 29, 30

Chefs never stop talking about food and Pieter and I are no exception, but in the Bootleg Banquet kitchen in Shoreditch, we mostly talk about the foods, dishes and recipes of our African childhoods.

The stories wax and wane around Pieter’s Afrikaner roots – his mom's long, slow braises with fruit, vinegar and spices – and my English upbringing on the Eastern Cape coast where mielies, fresh fish and vetkoek with home-made apricot jam were always on the menu.

We've come a long way since then but the warmth and generosity (and sunshine) of South Africa is still the backbone of everything we do.

So we’re celebrating the big flavours of the Big Continent - in honour of Freedom Day and UK polling day for the May election - in our supperclub kitchen, collaborating with our great friend and Hout Bay boytjie Grant Hawthorne (of the fiery and addictive African Volcano periperi sauce without which no poached egg, prawn or pulled-pork sandwich is complete), and Jean-Louis Holtzhauzen, from The Cape Wine Academy in London.

We invite you to come along for a full-on five-course tasting menu with matched wines. And of course we'll be lighting the fire. We hope to stir your taste-buds with remembered flavours and introduce a few new ones too - it all adds up to a fabulous night!

Bloody Valentine

Our next public event

Do you love Love but hate Valentine's Day?
Terrible romantics that we are, we think there are better ways to spend February 14 than uncomfortable silences and uneasy eye-contact over a table for two with a bored waiter watching the clock and a menu that doesn't set your world alight ..

So we're Bootlegging the cheesiest day of the year the only way we know how, with great food, great atmosphere and great company - yours, we hope.

There may be flowers and candlelight, but there won't be schmaltz or shizzle and there won't be tables for two. Bring your single friends, come as a threesome, maybe meet some new people - our supperclub is warm, welcoming and inclusive.

The menu:

Prosecco on arrival

Game bird table - sharing platters of tea-smoked quail, spicy tomato pickle, warm rosemary foccaccia, cheese croquettes, black bean coriander cakes, sour cream dip

Saucy seafood - a warm salad with mussels, clams, squid
(v: smoked aubergine, herbed yoghurt dressing, winter leaves)

Heartwarming oxtail, polenta, winter greens
(v: field mushroom ragout)

Blood orange jelly, poached rhubarb, vanilla cream

Tickets are £42pp plus booking fee, through Edible Experiences
